Introduction

There are enormous amount of various germs and bacteria found in common spaces and utensils that we used every single day. Most of us usually don’t think much about this since these germs and bacterias are invisible to us. However, the truth is that they exist in almost everything that we touched such as our mobile phones, cutlery, remote controls, cook wares, feeding bottles, wallets, books, utensils and etc.

Product Description

  • RayQueen UV Sterilizer is quite easy to operate. It uses high frequency UV-C light rays to kill or inactivate the micro-organisms. The unit comes with OSRAM HNS 6W Germicidal UV tube which is ozone-free and with low mercury content. The UV lamp, with a dominant wavelength of 254 nm, is very effective and environmental friendly disinfection without chemical.
  • Ease of maintenance and cleanliness is very important. The interior of RayQueen is made from great quality Hyundai BNG SS304 high quality Stainless Steel.
The model JHS-400 comes in a very generous volume, too. The wide space is designed to accommodate at least twelve (12) baby feeding bottles as well as other large items for sterilizing. We even sterilised a mid-sized lady leather handbag!

RayQueen JHS-400 comes with automatic ventilation. It comes with an internal ventilation fan that circulates fresh air throughout.

One distinct feature that stood out for RayQueen is its low-temperature sterilization. RayQueen employs a heated air drying method via PTC heater technology that keeps sterilisation at a maximum of 40 °C. At 40 °C, it will not change the shape of the object being sterilised but will make sure the object is completely dry at the same time. With PTC heaters, the energy consumption is very low at 90 W.

Other important features that the RayQueen UV steriliser has include very good and practical safety features. It comes with a tinted glass door that prevents excessive exposure to the UV-C ray, a door ON/OFF switch to stop sterilising if the door is opened halfway through, and an automatic overheating prevention device.

How to use the UV Sterilizer?

Operating RayQueen Sterilizer is real easy. There is only one rotating dial to operate. Just turn the dial to either left or right and press to select. The indicator will show the course selected and the countdown timer will start.
The unit comes with 3 different course of sterilization.
  • Course 1 – 10 minutes of full sterilization.

This course goes through a complete 10 minutes of UV sterilisation. Upon completion of 10 minutes, it continues to be on stand-by sterilisation mode. Every time the door is opened and closed, a 10 minutes of sterilisation begins.

Choose this course for objects such as mobile phones, remote controllers, papers, bags and etc. Use for dry objects only.

  • Course 2 – 20 minutes of drying + 10 minutes of sterilisation.

In this course, the first 20 minutes will be dedicated to drying the object inside the sterilizer. From the 21st to the 30th minute, it would sterilise the object using the UV lamp.

Choose this course for objects that have been washed but are still wet, such as feeding bottles, cutlery, plates, bibs, cups, toothbrushes, shavers, beauty tools, combs, cookware, etc.

  • Course 3 – 60 minutes in total (2 cycles of Course 2 as above)

It consists of 20 minutes of drying followed by 10 minutes of sterilization, and another similar cycle follows.

Choose this course for objects that are very wet and take a long time to dry, like towels, table rags, plush toys, dish cloths, baby pillows, etc.

How do you know this UV steriliser by RayQueen is effective?

The manufacturer had commissioned a testing laboratory (the Korea Testing and Research Institute) in Korea to certify their effectiveness.

The Hyundai Wacotec Ultra-Filtration (UF) filter is best suited for removing high molecular weight substances, colloidal materials, organic and inorganic polymeric molecules, and bacteria up to 99.99% except minerals. Filtration pore size is up to 0.03 microns (or 0.03 millimeters). This means that any substances or microorganisms larger than 0.03 microns will be filtered off.

 Characteristics of an Ultra-filtration (UF) Membrane

There are a few important characteristics of a good UF membrane.

Firstly, a UF membrane comes with pore sizes in the range of 0.03 to 0.05 microns. They are usually used to remove high molecular-weight substances (such as sediments and suspended solids), colloidal materials, organic and inorganic polymeric molecules, and bacteria. However, ions and minerals in the water will be allowed to pass through. 

 Secondly, because of the structural construction and polymeric nature of the UF, it can operate at low pressure. This makes the water pressure found in our homes more than sufficient to achieve high flow rates from an ultrafiltration membrane. The flow rate of a membrane is defined as the amount of permeate (product flow after filtration) produced per unit. In this case, the Hyundai Wacotec UF filter shows excellent water permeability.

In addition, operating at low pressure also means the setup does not require any mechanical or electrical power to assist. As a result, many homes’ operating costs become more economical and affordable.

What can a UF be filtered off of?

The illustration below shows which elements can be filtered off by ultrafiltration filters and which are allowed to pass through. Do note that monovalent and multivalent ions that are essential for our bodies are allowed to pass through the UF filters. However, others, such as viruses, bacteria, microorganisms, and suspended solids such as rust, heavy metals, etc., will be filtered off.

This Hyundai Wacotec UF filter also comes with NSF-certified components (tested and certified to ANSI/NSF Standard 42). A NSF certification means that the filter is manufactured according to stringent standards, using only approved materials and processes that are required for drinking water. At the same time, this UF filter also comes with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) certification.

 The service life for this filter is rather long at 18,900 liters. For a typical household with four family members, this service life means that the UF filter could last up to 24 months before replacement kicks in.

Conclusion:

The Hyundai Wacotec UF Filter is a very good filter that can be used to pair up with other in-line filters such as Hy-Q Aqua Pre-Carbon, Post-Carbon, and even Nano-PH Alkaline filters. Based on the filter specifications and performance, it can be safely said that this filter performs at a very high level of filtration. A test report indicated that it is able to filter off bacteria, viruses, and other living microorganisms found in the water.

With a filtration capacity of 5000 gal (or 18,900 liters), it can be safely said that the life span for any home’s usage should be around 2 years before replacement kicks in.
